Aid and Attendance stands as a valuable provision granted by the Department of Veteran Affairs, tailored for veterans from war eras and their surviving spouses. This tax-free financial aid initiative is purpose-built to help alleviate the costs tied to long-term care, whether it’s within the familiarity of one’s home, an assisted living facility, or a nursing home.

This assistance is directed toward veterans and surviving spouses who necessitate consistent support from a caregiver or another individual to carry out a minimum of two essential daily tasks like bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and transferring. The primary objective is to bolster those individuals who require additional aid with these activities to ensure a high quality of life and unobstructed access to the necessary care.

AmeriCare Plus is an accredited provider of Homemaker Home Health Aide Care, authorized by the Veterans Administration. We work in collaboration with the Veterans Administration offices situated in Hampton, Virginia; Richmond, Virginia; Salem, Virginia; and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Through this program, Homemakers or Home Health Aides make visits to veterans’ homes to offer personal care services and aid with activities of daily living (ADL). This service proves especially valuable for veterans facing isolation or when their primary caregiver is stretched thin.

Although not nurses themselves, Homemakers and Home Health Aides receive oversight from registered nurses who evaluate the daily living requirements of veterans.

Homemaker and Home Health Aide services can be combined with other Home and Community-Based Services, with specific provisions differing according to location. These services can act as an alternative to nursing home care or furnish respite care for veterans or their family caregivers within their homes.
