Aid and Attendance stands as a valuable provision offered by the Department of Veteran Affairs, designed to assist veterans from various war eras and their surviving spouses in Mecklenburg County. This tax-free financial aid program is specifically tailored to alleviate the expenses associated with long-term care, whether in the comfort of one’s home, an assisted living facility, or a nursing home.

The program is intended for veterans and surviving spouses in Mecklenburg County who require consistent assistance from a caregiver or another individual to perform at least two essential daily tasks, such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and transferring. Its primary goal is to provide support to individuals in need, ensuring a high quality of life and unimpeded access to the required care.

AmeriCare Plus proudly holds accreditation as a provider of Homemaker Home Health Aide Care, duly authorized by the Veterans Administration. Our collaboration extends to Veterans Administration offices located in Hampton, Virginia; Richmond, Virginia; Salem, Virginia; and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Under this program, our dedicated Homemakers and Home Health Aides conduct home visits to deliver essential personal care services and assistance with activities of daily living (ADL) to veterans. This service is particularly valuable for veterans experiencing isolation or when their primary caregiver is stretched thin.

While our Homemakers and Home Health Aides may not be nurses themselves, they operate under the supervision of registered nurses who assess the daily living requirements of veterans. These services seamlessly integrate with other Home and Community-Based Services, with tailored provisions for respective locations. Providing a flexible alternative to nursing home care, these services offer essential respite care for veterans and their family caregivers within the comfort of their own homes.
