Aid and Attendance is a valuable provision offered by the Department of Veteran Affairs, designed to assist veterans from various war eras and their surviving spouses. This tax-free financial aid program is specifically tailored to alleviate the expenses associated with long-term care, whether it’s in the comfort of one’s home, an assisted living facility, or a nursing home.

This program is intended for veterans and surviving spouses who require consistent assistance from a caregiver or another individual to perform at least two essential daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and transferring. Its primary goal is to provide support to those individuals who need extra help with these activities, ensuring a high quality of life and unimpeded access to the required care.

AmeriCare Plus holds accreditation as a provider of Homemaker Home Health Aide Care, duly authorized by the Veterans Administration. We operate in partnership with Veterans Administration offices located in Hampton, Virginia; Richmond, Virginia; Salem, Virginia; and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Within the framework of this program, our dedicated Homemakers and Home Health Aides conduct home visits to provide essential personal care services and assistance with activities of daily living (ADL) to veterans. This service is particularly valuable for veterans who may be experiencing isolation or when their primary caregiver is stretched thin.

While our Homemakers and Home Health Aides may not be nurses themselves, they work under the supervision of registered nurses who assess the daily living requirements of veterans. The Homemaker and Home Health Aide services can be seamlessly integrated with other Home and Community-Based Services, with specific provisions tailored to the respective locations. These services serve as a flexible alternative to nursing home care and offer essential respite care for veterans and their family caregivers within the comfort of their own homes.
